Burger Time sells to developer - Colorado man buys burger franchise; plans to double storesBy Jackie Jenson , Detroit Lakes NewspaperPublished Wednesday, September 01, 2004 With a new highway project getting underway, the local Burger Time has found itself in the center of much goings-on. To add to the activity, they also have a new corporate owner. The Fargo-based burger franchise was recently sold to a Colorado real estate developer with Minnesota connections, explained local real estate agent Jack Chivers, who was involved with selling the burger business. “Burger Time was sold to Sterion Incorporated, a Minneapolis–based medical products manufacture,” said Chivers. “I knew the owner and previous president of Burger Time. I am proud that they had confidence in me to sell the business for them.” Ironically, Chivers noted after advertising the business nationally, it ended up selling Sterion Inc., the Minneapolis business looking to diversify. Sterion Incorporated develops, manufactures and markets medical products such as Sterion Adhesive Skin Closures and ColorTrack Instrument Identification Tape. Through its LifeSafe Services subsidiary, the medical manufacturer also provides emergency oxygen and related services and is one of the nation’s leading providers of emergency oxygen units to the commercial marketplace.
In a July 1 company press release, Sterion CEO Kenneth Brimmer said, “We believe this acquisition represents a compelling return on investment business opportunity. We plan to build on a historic record of profitability for the operation.” Brimmer and Sterion board member Gary Copperud, a Denver-based real estate developer, were recently in Detroit Lakes to help finalize the sale with Chivers. Brimmer, a former president of the Rainforest Café franchise, plans to move the burger business forward and add new locations said Chivers. Chivers added with 11 current locations in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Iowa, Burger Time would like to double their Midwest venues within the next six months. “Burger Time is a good fit for them and with the highway construction project, their location in Detroit Lakes actually gets better,” he said. With over 35 years of experience, Chiver’s sales portfolio reads like a lakes area history lesson. From selling beer distributorships to bowling alleys; radio stations to countless resort properties, Chivers has sold a number of familiar area properties and businesses, some more than once. Now he can add Burger Time to that list. Jack Chivers Realty is located at 109 East Holmes Street, next to Bremer Bank in Detroit Lakes.
